A single-image method for x-ray refractive index CT.

چکیده
X-ray refraction-based computer tomography imaging is a well-established method for nondestructive investigations of various objects. In order to perform the 3D reconstruction of the index of refraction, two or more raw computed tomography phase-contrast images are usually acquired and combined to retrieve the refraction map (i.e. differential phase) signal within the sample. We suggest an approximate method to extract the refraction signal, which uses a single raw phase-contrast image. This method, here applied to analyzer-based phase-contrast imaging, is employed to retrieve the index of refraction map of a biological sample. The achieved accuracy in distinguishing the different tissues is comparable with the non-approximated approach. The suggested procedure can be used for precise refraction computer tomography with the advantage of a reduction of at least a factor of two of both the acquisition time and the dose delivered to the sample with respect to any of the other algorithms in the literature.

Empirical correlation for porosity deduction from X-ray computed tomography (CT)
For obtaining reservoir petrophysical properties, for example porosity, non-destructive methods such as X-ray computed tomography, CT, seems to be precise and accurate. Porosity is deducted from the CT image with a single scan via different techniques, such as pore space detection by image segmentation techniques then correlation with porosity. More than one hundred samples with carbonate li...
متن کاملUltrasonic Refractive Index Tomography
Ultrasonic computed tomography (UCT) is one of the methods capable of tissue characterization. It is expected to provide not only a quantitative image but also diagnostic information. As in X-ray CT, UCT requires a projection data to reconstruct a cross-sectional image. In UCT such projection data are derived from the received broadband ultrasonic signal. In this paper, two methods for deriving...
متن کاملEdge illumination X-ray phase tomography of multi-material samples using a single-image phase retrieval algorithm.
In this paper we present a single-image phase retrieval algorithm for multi-material samples, developed for the edge illumination (EI) X-ray phase contrast imaging method. The theoretical derivation is provided, along with any assumptions made. The algorithm is evaluated quantitatively using both simulated and experimental results from a computed tomography (CT) scan using the EI laboratory imp...
متن کاملInvestigation of dosimetric characteristic of NIPAM polymer gel using x-ray CT
Introduction: Polymer gel dosimeters contain chemical materials sensitive to the radiation which are polymerized by the radiation as a function of absorbed dose. So information of spatial dose distribution can be extracted by imaging from irradiated gel. Among imaging techniques, computed tomography (CT) poses as an attractive method because of practical advantages such as acce...
متن کاملComputed tomography of x-ray index of refraction using the diffraction enhanced imaging method.
Diffraction enhanced imaging (DEI) is a new, synchrotron-based, x-ray radiography method that uses monochromatic, fan-shaped beams, with an analyser crystal positioned between the subject and the detector. The analyser allows the detection of only those x-rays transmitted by the subject that fall into the acceptance angle (central part of the rocking curve) of the monochromator/analyser system....
